Calculating Torque Requirement

Calculating Torque Requirement

Use the following formula:
T = W x L x Cos(A)

Where:
A = Angle
L = Distance of Center of Gravity
T = Torque
W = Weight of Object to be Supported

Example:
W = 2 lbs. L = 4 in. Angle = 0°
T= (2) (4) Cos(0°)
T= 8lbf - in.

Notes:
1. If 2 Hinges are used: 8lb-in/2 = 4lb-in per Hinge.
2. To convert from lbf-in to kgf-mm, multiply by 11.5212.
